However, as it is constantly exposed to the environment, it is also one of the organs most vulnerable to alterations. In fact, according to the Spanish Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (AEDV), <b>more than 40% of the population<\/b> suffers from some kind of dermatological problem at least once a year, with many of these problems requiring medical consultation.  <\/p><p data-start=\"741\" data-end=\"1160\">Knowing the most common skin problems is essential for <b>detecting warning signs early<\/b> and seeking a proper diagnosis. Although some disorders may be mild or self-limiting, others may require specialised follow-up to avoid complications or permanent sequelae. Below, we review the most common dermatological conditions, their main symptoms, and when to see a dermatologist.  <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e41ee30 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"e41ee30\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Acne: beyond adolescence<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9f2d5ce elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9f2d5ce\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"1208\" data-end=\"1614\">Acne is one of the most prevalent skin conditions. Although it usually begins during puberty, it is estimated that <b>up to 15% of adults<\/b> over the age of 25 suffer from it, especially women. This inflammatory condition mainly affects the face, chest and back, and is characterised by the appearance of blackheads, pustules and, in some cases, deeper lesions such as nodules or cysts.  <\/p><p data-start=\"1616\" data-end=\"1940\">Acne not only has a physical impact, but also a psychological one, as it can affect self-esteem and social relationships. Treatment should be individualised and can range from topical products containing retinoids or benzoyl peroxide to oral treatments such as antibiotics or isotretinoin in severe cases. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6f88a0f elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"6f88a0f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Dermatitis: the most common skin inflammation<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c2878bb elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c2878bb\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"2003\" data-end=\"2108\">The term \u2018dermatitis\u2019 encompasses several inflammatory skin conditions. The most common are: <\/p><ul data-start=\"2110\" data-end=\"2433\"><li data-start=\"2110\" data-end=\"2210\"><p data-start=\"2112\" data-end=\"2210\"><strong data-start=\"2112\" data-end=\"2134\">Atopic dermatitis<\/strong>, which affects up to 20% of children and can persist into adulthood.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"2211\" data-end=\"2295\"><p data-start=\"2213\" data-end=\"2295\"><strong data-start=\"2213\" data-end=\"2238\">Seborrheic dermatitis<\/strong>, common on the scalp and oily areas of the face.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"2296\" data-end=\"2433\"><p data-start=\"2298\" data-end=\"2433\"><strong data-start=\"2298\" data-end=\"2325\">Contact dermatitis<\/strong>, which can be irritant or allergic, caused by cosmetics, metals, detergents or chemicals.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"2435\" data-end=\"2686\">Common symptoms include redness, itching, flaking and, in some cases, blisters. Management includes avoiding triggers, keeping the skin moisturised and using topical treatments such as corticosteroids or calcineurin inhibitors. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-085f671 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"085f671\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Psoriasis: a chronic inflammatory disease<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-81f7852 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"81f7852\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"2747\" data-end=\"3008\">Psoriasis affects approximately<b> 2\u20133% of the world&#8217;s population.<\/b> It is an autoimmune disease that causes excessive skin renewal, resulting in thick, scaly, red patches, usually on the elbows, knees, scalp, and back.<\/p><p data-start=\"3010\" data-end=\"3364\">In addition to skin manifestations, it can be associated with joint involvement (psoriatic arthritis) and other comorbidities such as obesity, diabetes, or cardiovascular disease. Treatment ranges from emollient creams and topical corticosteroids or vitamin D derivatives to systemic or biological therapies in moderate to severe cases. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5584c49 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"5584c49\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Skin infections: bacterial, viral and fungal<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-61c2218 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"61c2218\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"3432\" data-end=\"3544\">Skin infections are another common reason for dermatological consultations. Some of the most frequent are: <\/p><ul data-start=\"3546\" data-end=\"3777\"><li data-start=\"3546\" data-end=\"3594\"><p data-start=\"3548\" data-end=\"3594\"><strong data-start=\"3548\" data-end=\"3560\">Impetigo <\/strong>(bacterial), very common in children.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"3595\" data-end=\"3651\"><p data-start=\"3597\" data-end=\"3651\"><strong data-start=\"3597\" data-end=\"3630\">Herpes simplex or herpes zoster<\/strong>, caused by viruses.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"3652\" data-end=\"3720\"><p data-start=\"3654\" data-end=\"3720\"><strong data-start=\"3654\" data-end=\"3662\">Ringworm<\/strong>, a fungal infection affecting different parts of the body.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"3721\" data-end=\"3777\"><p data-start=\"3723\" data-end=\"3777\"><strong data-start=\"3723\" data-end=\"3738\">Candidiasis<\/strong>, common in folds and moist areas.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"3779\" data-end=\"3925\">Early diagnosis allows for the initiation of appropriate treatment (antibiotics, antivirals, or antifungals) and prevents spread or complications.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0ea7169 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"0ea7169\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Skin cancer: the risk of cumulative sun exposure<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4335769 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4335769\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"3998\" data-end=\"4187\">Skin cancer is the most commonly diagnosed type of cancer worldwide. In Spain, more than 78,000 new cases are diagnosed each year, according to data from the AEDV. The main types are:  <\/p><ul data-start=\"4189\" data-end=\"4382\"><li data-start=\"4189\" data-end=\"4258\"><p data-start=\"4191\" data-end=\"4258\"><strong data-start=\"4191\" data-end=\"4216\">Basal cell carcinoma<\/strong>, the most common and slow-growing type.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"4259\" data-end=\"4303\"><p data-start=\"4261\" data-end=\"4303\"><strong data-start=\"4261\" data-end=\"4288\">Squamous cell carcinoma<\/strong>, more aggressive.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"4304\" data-end=\"4382\"><p data-start=\"4306\" data-end=\"4382\"><strong data-start=\"4306\" data-end=\"4318\">Melanoma<\/strong>, less common but more dangerous due to its ability to metastasise.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"4384\" data-end=\"4618\">Excessive sun exposure and sunburn during childhood are significant risk factors. Treatment is based on antihistamines and, in severe cases, corticosteroids.  <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-151aaf4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"151aaf4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Hives and allergic reactions<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b37951e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b37951e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"5061\" data-end=\"5461\">Rosacea is a chronic condition that mainly affects adults with fair skin. It is characterised by <strong>facial redness<\/strong>, dilated blood vessels (telangiectasia), pimples and, in some cases, eye inflammation.
